HikmaLingo Privacy Policy
This page explains what information is collected while you use the HikmaLingo app, why it's collected, and how it's protected.
01 What data we collect
HikmaLingo is designed so you can use it without ever creating an account. The table below shows the categories of data that may be collected while you use the app:
| Data | When it's collected | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous device identifier (randomly generated) | When you first open the app | Yes |
| Learning progress (episodes watched, quiz results, XP, streaks) | As you use the app | Yes |
| Device language / interface language preference | When you first open the app | Yes |
| Display name (shown on your profile) | If you enter one | No |
| Profile photo | If you choose one | No — stays on your device only, never sent to our servers |
| Email, name, account ID (if you link Google/Apple) | If you link a Google/Apple account | No |
| Subscription status (active/inactive, duration) | If you subscribe | No |
| Time zone offset (e.g. "UTC+3") | When you open the app | Yes — used to send reminders at a sensible local time |
| Push notification token | If you allow notifications | No — turn notifications off anytime in the app's Profile settings or your device settings |
| Advertising ID and ad interaction data (via Google AdMob) | When ads are shown in the free version | No — see Advertising |
| App usage events (e.g. "lesson completed", "paywall viewed") and basic device info (model, OS version, app instance ID), via Firebase Analytics | As you use the app, only if you consented where consent is required | No |
| Crash/error reports (error message, technical stack trace, platform) | If the app crashes | Yes — not linked to your account, deleted after 30 days |
We do not access sensitive device data like location, contacts, microphone, or camera. Your payment card details never reach us — subscription purchases are processed entirely through Apple's/Google's own systems.
02 Why we use this data
- To save your learning progress — episodes watched, correct/incorrect answers, daily streaks.
- To restore your progress if you switch devices or reinstall the app — this is why we use an anonymous identifier and, optionally, a Google/Apple account.
- To show the interface in the right language.
- To verify subscription status (to provide an ad-free/unlocked experience if you subscribed).
- To send notifications you allowed — announcements and learning reminders (for example, when your streak is at risk or you haven't practiced for a couple of days).
- To show ads in the free version, which keeps the app free to use.
- To understand how the app is used and to fix crashes, so we can improve it.
We do not sell your data to advertising companies. Data we collect is used only for the purposes above.
03 Where data is stored
By design, most of your data is stored directly on your phone (local storage) — this is what makes the app fast and lets parts of it work offline. Data sent to our servers mainly exists as a backup, mostly so we can restore your progress if you switch devices.
Our servers are hosted with a Europe-based server provider; media files (video, images) are delivered through Cloudflare's infrastructure.
04 Third-party services
We work with a small number of trusted service providers to run the app — each one only accesses the data it needs for its own function:
| Service | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Google Sign-In / Sign in with Apple | Optional account linking — restoring your progress if you switch devices |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Securely processing subscription purchases — we never see your payment details |
| RevenueCat | Verifying subscription status (active or not, renewal date) |
| Cloudflare | Secure delivery of video/image content and web traffic |
| Google AdMob | Showing ads in the free version and asking for ad consent where required (see Advertising) |
| Google Firebase Analytics | Aggregated app usage statistics, to understand which features are used |
| Expo push service, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Apple Push Notification service | Delivering the push notifications you allowed |
05 Subscriptions & payments
If you purchase a HikmaLingo Pro subscription, the payment is processed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Your card number, billing address, and similar details never reach us — they're handled directly by Apple/Google under their own privacy policies. We only receive, via RevenueCat, whether "this user has an active subscription or not."
06 Advertising
The free version of HikmaLingo shows ads served by Google AdMob: full-screen ads between some lessons, and optional rewarded ads that unlock a series. HikmaLingo Pro subscribers see no ads.
To serve and measure ads, Google may use your device's advertising ID (on iOS, only if you allow tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt), your IP address, and basic device information. Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's consent form before personalized ads or analytics are used. Without consent you may still see limited, non-personalized ads.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your device settings.
We deliberately block betting/gambling, alcohol, and dating/relationship ad categories — we consider them inconsistent with the app's Islamic content.
07 How long we keep data
We keep your data for as long as your account/device is active. Deleting the app doesn't automatically delete your backed-up data on our servers (so we can restore your progress if you switch devices) — but you can delete it yourself at any time inside the app, or ask us by email (see Account deletion).
Crash/error reports are deleted automatically after 30 days. Server backups are kept for 7 days.
08 Your rights
By reaching out to the email below, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what data we hold about you
- Correct your data
- Delete your data entirely
We respond within a reasonable time after receiving your request — usually a few business days.
09 Account deletion
You can delete your HikmaLingo account and associated data in two ways. Step-by-step instructions are also on our account deletion page.
Option 1 — inside the app (instant)
- Open HikmaLingo and go to Profile → Account (Turkish interface: Profil → Hesap).
- Tap Delete my account (Hesabımı Sil) and confirm.
- Your account and its data are deleted from our servers immediately, and the app's local data on your device is wiped.
Option 2 — by email
- Email [email protected] with "Account Deletion Request" in the subject line.
- If you linked a Google or Apple account, mention which one in your email so we can match it to the right record.
- We'll permanently delete your account and associated data on our servers within 30 days of receiving your request, and confirm by email once it's done.
What gets deleted
- Your learning progress (episodes watched, quiz results, XP, streaks)
- Your profile info (display name, notification/sound preferences)
- Your Google/Apple account link (if any)
- Subscription history records we keep on our servers
What may be retained, and for how long
For legal and accounting reasons, subscription/payment transaction records (the transaction history of purchases made through Apple/Google) may be retained separately, for accounting purposes only, for as long as local tax law requires (typically up to 5 years) — this data is no longer linked to your profile at that point, it's kept purely as a legal record.
If you reopen the app after a deletion request, the system treats you as a new/anonymous user — your previous progress won't come back.
10 Children
HikmaLingo is designed for a general audience (adults/teens), it's not a children's app, and we don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
11 Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the app evolves. We'll update the effective date whenever we make a material change; we recommend checking back periodically.
